Costa Teguise

The north of Lanzaroteis wonderful. Beautiful coastline, the superb volcano of Monte Corona, then the ascent to Mirador del Rio and fantastic views over the island of La Graciosa, the village of the thousand palm trees of Haría, and the wonderful architectural works of César Manrique, Los Jameos del Agua, Jardín del Cactus, Mirador del Río, and the beautiful Canarian village of Teguise, once capital of the island. Costa Teguise
to
Playa Blanca

Today we ride across the island. See how the wonderful architecture of César Manrique combines with the volcanic landscape in the Fundación César Manrique. Then we reach the fantastic volcanoes of the Parque Nacional de Timanfya, dating back to the 18th century, where the restaurant barbecues with the high temperatures from the ground. Then on to the resort of Playa Blanca and a well-earned beer by the pool looking across the sea to the island of Fuerteventura.

Do a roundride, or take a day off and enjoy the pool, or maybe the beaches of Papagayo, the best on the island. Our roundride takes us to the area of La Geria, where the unique volcanic vineyards produde the most exquisite white wines. Visit a winery and then ride to the impressive half-submerged volcano of El Golfo, with its fascinating green pool right by the ocean. Maybe a fish lunch with Lanzarote wine in El Golfo before we head back to our luxury hotel in Playa Blanca.

Costa Calma

On to Fuerteventura. A short boat trip takes us to Corralejo and then we ride across the island. Big landscapes and big skies with the volcanoes such as Timandaya, goats, barren and awe-inspiring wilderness, the sand dunes of Corralejo, farms where camels replace donkeys as beasts of burden. And finally the most spectacular beaches of Costa Calma, where the sails of kite surfers offer a colourful spectacle.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

A short ride takes us down to Morro Jable in the south of the island. Then a fast catamaran ferry to the south and to the island of Gran Canaria. We land in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and enjoy our stay in the hotel in the old quarter of Triana with the house where Columbus stayed before the last stage of his voyage across the Atlantic and also the spectacular cathedral. Time for some shopping and dinner or tapas.

Tejeda

A big climb from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Tejeda. We leave behind the beautiful coloured houses of Las Palmas and then slowly ascend. The big surprise is how lush the vegation is. The landscape is green and tropical, in contrast to the more austere and volcanic islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Finally we reach the imppossibly picturesque white village of Tejeda, high in the island.

Tejeda

Tejeda lies on a vast collapsed volcanic crater, the scale of which defies imagnation. The Spanish philosopher Unamuno described this as a "petrifeid storm", and these landscapes are truly breathtaking. Today's route takes us to vist two spectacular rocks on the crater, the Roque Bentayga, with aborigine remains, and the Roque Nublo, towering over the crater. An optional side trip takes us to Pico de las Nieves, the highest point on the island and with incredible views over to Tenerife and the Teide volcano.

Tejeda

Another free day in Tejeda. Take a short ride along the crater to the nearby village of Artenara, with its cave houses. On the way we visit another crater, that of Montañón Negro. Or take a free day in Tejeda, or maybe a local hike.

to
Santa Cruz de Tenerife

On to our final island. Today we have a lot of descending to Agaete and the Puerto de las Nieves. Pine forests, cave houses and spectacular volcanic canyons and valleys take us to the harbour. A longer route takes us through more spectacular canyons, the banana plantations, and then striking coasltine of the Parque Natural Tamadaba. And then maybe another seaside fish lunch before hopping on the fast ferry to Tenerife.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

You might not want to move far from our luxury hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife Our ride would involve a transfer up to the World Heritage city of La Laguna de San Cristóbal, and then a ride through the superb tropical forest of Anaga down to the beach of Las Teresitas and then back to Santa Cruz. Alternatively a short beach ride out to Las Teresitas and back.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife
to
El Teide

El Teide is the highest point in Spain at 3718 metres. Today we transfer from La Laguna de San Cristóbal to our hotel at 2150 metres. The ride is more than spectacular as we ascend through pine forests and then reach the immense and wonderful crater surrounding the Teide. As we ascend, we see the surrouunding island above the haze. the beauty of the ride defies belief. Tonight we stay in the crater at the Parador.

El Teide

Today we take a cable car up the Teide and then a hike to the summit, Unbelievable scenery as we stand on this still-hot volcano and survey the surrounding islands. Than back to the hotel and maybe a hike or a walk around the crater, or follow in the tracks of the many cycle teams who train up here. And the sky at night is simply superb.

El Médano

Our final day and a big descent. A short ride across the crater, a short ascent and then a big long descent through pine forests, followed by the arid landscapes of the south of the island. Our final stay is at the modest beach resort of El Médano with a last chance for a swim on the beach and beer and dinner with our companions. What a tour!
