Tour Route

Day
1
Málaga Airport
to
Ronda

Pick up from arrival point and transfer to hotel in Ronda. After arriving at our first hotel we will have the chance to explore this beautiful town split into two by the most incredible ravine. Whitewashed houses, where the labyrinth of streets betrays Ronda's Arab past. The elegant bullring and the fine town walls.
Day
2
Ronda

Today's ride visits the beautiful mountains of Málaga between Ronda and the Costa del Sol. The green scenery is dotted with picturesque white villages, and it is usually possible to look down the coast to Gibraltar and the continent of Africa across the Straits. One of the villages is not white but blue! Discover why on this beautiful ride. Spend the rest of the day discovering Ronda.

Ronda
to
Grazalema

From Ronda ride to the incredible village of Setenil de las Bodegas, where the houses are built into the cliff face. Visit the Roman archaeological site of Acinipo. A landscape of olive groves where the characteristic black pigs are allowed to graze in the open. Then on to the beautiful limestone mountains of the Sierra de Grazalema with immense forests of cork trees and vultures soaring overhead. The hotel is in the open countryside, close to the village of Grazalema, which nestles under the high peaks.

Day
4
Grazalema
to
Arcos de la Frontera

Leaving our hotel, we head towards Grazalema. Here we can take the opportunity to wander round the enchanting streets and enjoy the marvellous surroundings of the village. Some might like to take the opportuunity to do the spectacular ride up the Puerto de las Palomas. We then have a tremendous long descent which leads us to a landxcape of cotton fields, bull ranches and viineyards. Final destination is Arcos de la Frontera, one of the most famous of the white villages, perched high on a hill and dominated by its castle.

Day
5
Arcos de la Frontera
to
Medina Sidonia

After leaving Arcos de la Frontera, we head southwards towards the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, one of the largest cork forests in Europe. On reaching the park, we turn southwards towards the Atlantic coast. The route follows the shore of the Guadalcacín reservoir with immense bull ranches. Tonight's stop is in the charming village of Medina Sidonia, an old Arab fortress town and previously a Roman city, not far from the Atlantic Coast.

Day
6
Medina Sidonia
to
Vejer de la Frontera

Leaving Medina Sidonia, we head down towards the coast. After crossing the flat lands of La Janda, where it is often possible to see fighting bulls grazing, we finally reach the hilltop village of Vejer de la Frontera. We should spend time exploring this enchanting village. The chaotic street plan of Vejer, and indeed of most of the villages that we see en route, is evidence of the Arab past of Spain.

Day

Vejer de la Frontera
to
Tarifa

After leaving Vejer de la Frontera, we descend towards the coast and follow the beach round to Cape Trafalgar, site of the famous sea battle. We cycle southwards along the coast, and the mountains of Morocco slowly become visible. • We think cycle touring is the ideal way to travel in Europe and that is why we are very pleased to launch European Bike Adventures, as it allows us the opportunity to offer a whole new set of experiences to people we know will appreciate them.

Accordingly we have taken our time in selecting the portfolio of cycle tours you find listed here.

Luggage is transported by IberoCycle to the next hotel. Cyclists carry just what they need for that day.

A back-up vehicle and IberoCycle staff member supports cycling stages.

There are normally 10 - 20 cyclists on each trip. Cyclists choose whether they cycle alone or with other cyclists.

Clients do not cycle with a cycling guide.

Cyclists are free in the evenings to dine with other members of the group or to do their own thing. Our representative will organise a meal for those who wish to dine in company.

Routes have soft options for those cyclists who do not wish to cycle the full stage. Thus the routes are suitable for all levels. Non-cyclists may also participate using our transfer service.

Air - The closest airport is Málaga-Costa del Sol. Transfer from here to Ronda is around 1 hour 20 minutes. It is also possible to arrive at Seville Airport and take the bus to Ronda. You may find this map useful for planning itineraries by air. At the end of the tour, there is a transfer to Málaga Airport to arrive around 12.00. Gibraltar Airport is 44 km from Tarifa

  • Personalised tours are available for groups of 4 or more riders. You may like to add extra days, choose a different arrival day, modify the itinerary.

Please contact us at info@iberocycle.com if you would like to personalise this tour.

  • Málaga

Our usual arrival point t for this tour is Málaga. This is a pleasant city with a sizeable port and beaches and a population of over 500,000. It is an interesting place to spend a day or two.

Please note that we transfer to Málaga on the final Saturday morning. It may be an idea to spend an extra night there and spend a relaxing day sightseeing, shopping, beaching etc. Sights include the Castle of Gibralfaro / Alcazaba (the old Moorish fortress which dominates the city), the port area, the historical centre with its shops and tapas bars, the Picasso Museum and also the house where he was born, the 16th century Renaissance cathedral, and the Roman theatre.

A fun way of visiting Málaga is to take a city bike tour. We recommend Málága Bike Tours. These tours depart every day at 10 a.m. (book previously). Kay Farrell and her team will give you a fun insight into Málaga from a bike seat. You are free to then go back and visit the places in more depth.

Please consult us to book extra nights in Málaga at the end of the tour.

    Granada / Seville / Cordoba

Whether it is on this tour or another tour, you simply have to visit these cities. All three are delighful and have stunning examples of Moorish architecture such as the Alhambra in Granada, the Great Mosque of Cordoba, and the Alcázar Palace of Seville. Obviously hiring a car gives you a lot of flexibility to visit the cities, although you don't need it once you are there. You may prefer to use the excellent bus or train services.

Granada is not really accessible by train from Málaga. Use the excellent ALSA bus service, which has departures both from the airport, and also Málaga Bus Station. It is probably advisable to pre-book tickets online.

Córdoba and Seville are accessible from Málaga (María Zambrano Station). Some of the trains are the AVE high-speed train. This also links both cities to Madrid, which may be worth bearing in mind. The Spanish train servivce website RENFE will provide complete timetables and information.

    Morocco

Africa lies just across the Straits of Gibraltar from Tarifa, so you may like to take this opportunity to visit by taking a ferry from Tarifa on the Saturday after the tour.

  • Hybrid e-bike    Road E-bike

The last few years have seen a revolution in the use of e-bikes. We now offfer e bikes on absolutely all of our rides. There are of course multiple advantages to using one on a bike tour:

The difficulty level is lowered by a grade. Thus an intermediate level tour becomes an easy tour as the motor assists pedalling.

The distance you can cycle on each day is effectively "reduced". Longer distances become accessible to a greater range of riding abilities.

Ability levels between riders on the same tour are levelled out as riders can choose an e-bike to enable them to keep up with stronger riders.

No more worrying about the hills!

So if you are in any doubt about whether a particular tour might be too challenging for you, then take the e-bike option. You can still get a good workout by keeping the pedal assistance level low. E-bikes are now available on all of our tours. And many have both the standard e-bike and also the road e-bike.
