Catalonia is home to some of the country's most varied scenery, ranging from the spectacular Pyrenees on the border with France, down through beautiful farmland and forests, to the rugged beauty of the Costa Brava. Here the pretty coastline contrasts with the clear waters and sheltered coves. We will visit fine medieval towns and villages such as Girona and Pals, along with picturesque coastal villages. And of course the various Dalí sites associated with the great artist.

Arrival Point
to
Girona

Arrival in Girona. Spend the day visiting the old part of this historical city, where the cathedral, the town walls and the narrow and atmospheric streets of the Jewish quarter are outstanding. And don’t forget to kiss the bottom of the lioness! Then it’s time to enjoy a drink in the outdoor cafés of the Plaça de la Independencia.
Day
2
Girona
to
Olot

The first ride is along a disused railway line converted into a bike path. We cycle through beautiful villages and forests into the unique area of La Garrotxa. This is home to the largest collection of extinct volcanoes, with some 40 cones (the last eruptions were 11,500 years ago), now covered by forests, and some beautiful villages. The urban area of Olot actually includes two volcanic craters. Olot itself was home to a thriving textile industry and has some impressive Modernist architecture around the centre.

The route leads through the Garrotxa and passing the volcanic park and the famous beech forests. We pass through charming medieval villages such as Santa Pau. In Banyoles we can stop for a swim in the lake (used for water sports in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games) before continuing to the town of Figueres, birthplace of the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. Here we can visit the superb Dalí Theatre-Museum.

We continue eastwards towards the Mediterranean and the Costa Brava through the magnificent scenery of the Cap de Creus, where the Pyrenees meet the sea. Ride along the coast to the pretty village of Port de la Selva. We finally arrive in Cadaqués, one of the most picturesque villages on the Costa Brava in a stunning setting and surrounded by the terraced olive groves. Here Dalí had his summer house in the adjacent village of Port Lligat.

From Cadaqués we head southwards down the Costa Brava. We leave the Cap de Creus behind and cycle along the plain of the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l´Empordà, a protected area of marshland. We then pass the ancient Greek / Roman city of Empúries with its extensive ruins along the seafront. Our destination today is the town of Torroella de Montgrí, dominated by the castle on the grey mountain of Montgrí. 60 km - 37 miles.

  • Hybrid e-bike    Road E-bike

The last few years have seen a revolution in the use of e-bikes. We now offfer e bikes on absolutely all of our rides. There are of course multiple advantages to using one on a bike tour:

The difficulty level is lowered by a grade. Thus an intermediate level tour becomes an easy tour as the motor assists pedalling.

The distance you can cycle on each day is effectively "reduced". Longer distances become accessible to a greater range of riding abilities.

Ability levels between riders on the same tour are levelled out as riders can choose an e-bike to enable them to keep up with stronger riders.

No more worrying about the hills!

So if you are in any doubt about whether a particular tour might be too challenging for you, then take the e-bike option. You can still get a good workout by keeping the pedal assistance level low. E-bikes are now available on all of our tours. And many have both the standard e-bike and also the road e-bike.
